Matroneo
Our purpose has always been to bring a production of high quality. Our estates are located in areas with a high wine-growing and wine-production culture, as stated by the grand-ducal edict of 1716, which was issued by Cosimo de’ Medici and is considered the first law in the world in defence of wine production and of wine trade from prestigious areas. The principle of a wine production of good-quality and personality is summed up in our motto: “One bottle of wine per each vine” (a kilo of grapes per vine). Like our philosophy of production, also our job is expressed in few simple words: “We are a family with its feet in the past, hands that work in the present and its head that works out the future. Our family is strongly anchored to the true values of man, wine growers and olive growers and our purpose is to develop the native species of vines in full respect of traditions. Our hands work in the present because we consider practicality a prerequisite for a production of quality. Our head is turned to the future because we are a generation with our mind open to the changes of society and of consumers.
Barco Reale di Carmignano, DOC
Barco Reale takes its name from a boundary wall, two meters high and 52 km long, which was erected in 1626 by the Medici in order to delimit the first natural reserve. In 1716 Cosimo III de’ Medici took this wine as a point of reference in the grand-ducal edict (the first “D.O.C.” of the world) to indicate the boundary of production of Carmignano wine. Carmignano is a wine blend of 80% Sangiovese and 20% Cabernet Sauvignon. These two species of wines are harvested in different times. Grape harvesting goes on until the end of September and the first ten days of October. Alcoholic fermentation takes place in stainless steel tanks, where the must and the marc have a large surface of contact in order to extract tannins and natural colorings. To this purpose the must has to be pumped over the marc. After the malo-lactic fermentation, wines are assembled in steel tanks where they age. This wine is put on the market one year after vintage. It is fruity with a good body and elegance, which is typical of the wines of Carmignano. Serve at 16-17°C in glasses for red wines that enhance the freshness and the fruitiness of the wine
Carmignano DOCG
The best grapes of Sangiovese (80%) and Cabernet Sauvignon (20%) are selected and harvested by hand. They ferment separately in stainless steel tanks because they have different times of ripening and so are harvested in different times. After the malo-lactic fermentation the wines are assembled and left to age in oak barrels for 8 months. After bottling the wine has to refine for 8 months in bottles. Serve at 18°C in glasses for wines with a good body.
